Welcome to Quotidian Mysteries!

quo·tid·i·an

/kwōˈtidēən/

adjective

ordinary or everyday, especially when mundane.

“Perhaps our most valuable mystics are those of the quotidian, people who do not contemplate holiness in isolation, or devote themselves to the pursuit of spiritual arcana accessible only to a select few, or reach for illumination in serene silence. Instead they search for God in a life filled with noise, the demands of other people, and duties that can submerge the self.” Kathleen Norris

I am on pilgrimage…

…to understand disordered and fractured lives

…to make meaning with a community of humans gathered around Jesus

…to explore the dissonance I feel in the face of the rote mechanics of existence

…to engender hope in the beloved (those who belong to Christ Jesus)

…to allow the weak to lead the strong

…“to be searched by God and my anxious thoughts fully known” — Psalm 139

…to look upon all of human life—both externally (vocation, recreation, work, culture) and internally (motivation, desire, emotion, virtue)—and to declare “all thy works shall praise thee” — Psalm 145

…to contemplate ordinary things in ordinary places and to find there something extra-ordinary.

…to know nothing can separate us from God’s love

…and finally (and perhaps most importantly to myself) to cultivate a habit of reflection and a practice of writing.

Won’t you join this pilgrimage?

Hi, I’m Graeme Gastineau. I live and pastor in a midsize town in Northeast, Arkansas.

I’m mainly here to write for myself about the things of God and the collective existence of earthlings, equal parts passion project and spiritual discipline. I’m not looking for an audience, but I do desire a community, one that will call me to account, will dialogue in mutual submission under the Lordship of Jesus, and will spur me onward toward love and good deeds.

You can find my uninspiring internet existence at the following links (Facebook and Instagram). Most importantly, I am a husband to Faith and steward of my dogs, Mabel Marvin. I hold a Master of Divinity degree from Northern Seminary, where I was fortunate to learn from a community of passionate scholars and Church leaders.
